Part A: Grammar (40 Marks)

1. Complete the passage with suitable verbs from the list below.  Put them in correct tenses. Use negatives where necessary                     1´5=05

            “May I come in, Sir ?” a boy standing at the door said to him. Then without waiting for his reply the boy entered the room and said, “Sir, I’ve come from Satkhira with a letter from Mr Abdur Razzak.”

            “Abdur Razzak? How is he?” smilingly said Mr Saiful Alam. “He is quite well. He’s been recently promoted to the rank of professor,” the boy said.

9.         Make a report on the frequent load-shedding happening recently in Dhaka                10

11.       Read the passage below and write the summary of it.  10                 

            To forgive an injury is often considered to be a sign of weakness; it is really a sign of strength. It is easy to allow oneself to be carried away by resentment and hate into an act of vengeance; but it takes a strong character to retain those natural passions. The man who forgives an injury proves himself to be the superior of the man who wronged him, and puts the wrong-doer to shame. Forgiveness may even turn a foe into a friend. So, mercy is the noblest form of revenge.                                                        

12.       Suppose you are a student of Kapilmuni College, Khulna. Write an application to the Principal of your college for changing one of your elective subjects.     10

13. Complete the following story:        15

            One day I was walking about a garden in the morning. A gentle breeze was blowing.  The weather was very fine. Suddenly a cobra appeared before me.
