UN Resident Coordinator meets Saber Hossain Chowdhury

UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis on Monday paid a courtesy call on Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury at the latter’s residence.

During the meeting, Saber Hossain Chowdhury presented various initiatives taken by the government to face climate change.

Praising all initiatives of the government, the UN Resident Coordinator has shown keen interest in working together.

Both Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Gwyn Lewis briefed the media after the meeting.

The UN Resident Coordinator said the UN will stand by Bangladesh to face various natural calamities including floods and cyclones created by the impact of climate change.

Saber Hossain Chowdhury said the government has allocated Tk 35,000 crore among 24 ministries in the current fiscal year to face climate change. 

Mentioning that the allocated money is not sufficient, the minister said he has discussed the issue with the UN Resident Coordinator.
