Awami League to continue showdown in December

The ruling Awami League and its associate organisations will stage massive showdowns all over the country including the capital Dhaka to face political programmes taken by the opposition parties including BNP.

As part of the showdown, councils of Awami League and associate bodies will be continued at district and upazila levels. Besides, the party is taking huge preparation to hold the zone-based programme in the capital.

Contacted, Awami League Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak told Bangladesh Pratidin that they don’t believe in counter programmes.

“Our central council is scheduled to be held on December 24. Several councils of the associate organisations will be held in November and December. Besides, we have several day-based programmes. District and upazila councils are going on. We are busy with organisational work. These programmes will be strengthened from the running month. We will face anti-liberation forces through various active programmes in the streets,” he said.

According to the senior leaders of the party, although Awami League will not go on counter-political programmes, the oldest party in the country will stage a showdown through simultaneous programmes in the capital.

They said the council of Mohila Awami League will be held on November 26, the council of Chhatra League on December 3, the council of Jubo Mohila League on December 9 and the council of the central Awami League will be held on December 24. Every council will be held at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will present as the chief guest.

Wishing anonymity, several Awami League leaders said BNP leaders announced that after December 10, the country will be run under the direction of Khaleda Zia which is a deep conspiracy against the government. BNP wants to clash which has been proved in their recent political rallies across the country which they attended with sticks.

Abdur Rahman, presidium member of Awami League, said, “BNP is a political party comprised of killers, terrorists, anti-liberation forces, and anti-humanity forces. Their movement means fire terrorism, killing, and forced disappearance.  BNP’s main target is to capture the state power from the back door. They don’t believe in democracy and elections. Their killing mission in the name of politics will be stopped strictly. We won’t them spare. However, if they do a democratic movement, we will welcome them.”

Awami League Dhaka Divisional Organising Secretary Mirza Azam told Bangladesh Pratidin that the pro-liberation people of the country will not give a change to the anti-liberation forces to capture the streets in December as it (December) is the month of liberation. Awami League leaders and activists will be on the streets through various programmes. Special programmes will be observed in the various points of Dhaka.

Dhaka south and north Awami League will also hold programmes throughout December including zone-based programmes from December 1-16.

Dhaka city north Awami League General Secretary SM Mannan Kachi said, “We have started zone-based programmes. BNP’s all anarchies will be faced by our programmes throughout December.”

Contacted, Dhaka south Awami League Organising Secretary Golam Asraf Talukder told Bangladesh Pratidin that their party chief directed not to obstruct any democratic movement. But if BNP-Jamaat chooses the path of anarchy in the name of the movement, they won’t be spared.

Dhaka district Awami League General Secretary Paniruzzaman Tarun said a rally will be held at Mirza Golam Hafiz College ground in December on behalf of the Dhaka district Awami League. Tens of thousands of activists will attend there. Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader will address the rally as the chief guest.

Meanwhile, a massive rally is being held on Friday in the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan marking the 50th founding anniversary of Awami Jubo League. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address the rally as the chief guest.

Organisers hoped around 10 lakh people will join the rally to show the strength of the largest youth organization in South Asia.
