Commission for investigating enforced disappearance gets permission to inspect Aynaghar

The investigation commission on enforced disappearance got the permission to identity the people lost due to enforced disappearance and find out them. At the same time, they were given provision to inspect various places including Aynaghar where the people were imprisoned illegally and interrogate and call any people and organizations allegedly involved in the matter.

Last Sunday (September 15), the Cabinet Division issued a notification exercising their relevant powers. The commission has been asked to submit a report to the government within 90 days.

On August 27, the government formed a five-member investigation commission headed by retired High Court judge Moinul Islam Chowdhury. This commission was formed to search for persons who were forcibly disappeared from January 6, 2009 to August 5 this year during the ousted Awami League government. A new notification was issued on Sunday specifying the terms of reference of the commission. At the same time, the August 27 notification has been cancelled. However, all the members of the commission remain unchanged.
